Title IX (Sexual Misconduct) Statement

 

Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology (TSCT) is committed to providing and maintaining a safe, healthy, learning and working environment free from all forms of harassment and discrimination. This includes sex and gender-based harassment and discrimination.

 

The College will comply with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), the Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), as amended by the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA), and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in employment; and other applicable laws.

 

What is Title IX?

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) is a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity and retaliation related to these complaints.

 

"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance." Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and its implementing regulation at 34 C.F.R. Part 106 (Title IX). Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual assault.

 

Sexual harassment is unwelcome conduct which includes dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and gender-based harassment/violence committed by students, faculty, and staff.

 

It is the policy of the College to provide educational and prevention programs regarding sex and gender-based harassment; to encourage reporting of incidents; to make available timely services; and to provide prompt and equitable methods of resolution to stop the behavior, to remedy any harm and prevent the recurrence of sex and gender-based harassment and discrimination.

 

This policy applies to all college-operated programs: academic, athletic, residential, social and others. TSCT encourages individuals to seek assistance if they believe they have experienced sex discrimination or been subjected to sex and gender-based misconduct by any student or employee.

Non-Retaliation

Retaliation against an individual who has reported a claim of illegal sex and gender-based harassment and discrimination or who cooperates with an investigation in good faith is prohibited and will be subject to discipline up to and including termination of employment and/or dismissal from the College.
